The challenge
Canada Cloud Pharmacy is a hybrid pharmacy based in Vancouver, operating both a physical storefront and a national mail-order service with an international patient base, particularly across the United States. Their primary value proposition is providing affordable access to brand-name and generic medications for patients who would otherwise face significantly higher costs.
Despite an existing web presence, the pharmacy had no dedicated mobile experience. Customers managing order tracking, prescription refills, and new prescription uploads were routed through an ageing website that created meaningful friction at every step. For pharmacy staff, this translated into high inbound call volumes and extended wait times. For patients, it meant a clunky, opaque experience for what should be simple self-serve actions.
The approach
Engaged as the sole designer within a cross-functional team via ThoughtsWin Systems, I began with multiple client discovery sessions to gather stakeholder requirements, customer feedback, and business logic before committing to any design direction. This up-front alignment ensured the design addressed real operational pain points rather than assumed ones.
The core objective was self-service: giving patients the ability to independently track shipments, request refills, and upload prescriptions without needing to call the pharmacy or navigate an outdated website. Beyond functional requirements, a key design goal was quality. The brief called for a modern, first-party-calibre iOS experience that felt native to the platform, adhering to current Apple design conventions and meeting the standard patients expect from polished consumer apps.
The result is a purpose-built iOS application that brings Canada Cloud Pharmacy's core patient workflows into a clean, native mobile experience. By surfacing order tracking, refill requests, and prescription management as first-class actions in the app, the design lays the foundation for meaningful reductions in inbound call volume and a substantially improved experience for patients across Canada and internationally.
